Piazza Navona

piazza navona obelisk romeMaybe the most spectacular square in Rome,  Piazza Navona is dominated by the Borromini dome, in front of which stands the amazing Fountain of the Rivers by Bernini. If you look at the statue that represents the river Nile; you will see that the figure raises his hand in front of his eyes to cover them from the view of Borromini’s dome, which was considered ugly by Bernini. This rumor has never been proven to be true; however if you ask a  Roman, they will surely confirm the story.

There are plenty of coffee bars in the area (which tend to be more expensive), and local artists like to come to Piazza Navona to sell their portraits and paintings. Piazza Navona is a beautiful place to relax and watch the sun set over the piazza.
