Piazza Venezia is a large piazza dominated by several monuments and palaces. The structure that reigns supreme over the piazza (and the first one you will notice upon entry) is called Il Vittoriano. Il Vittoriano is a monument dedicated to King Victor Emanuele who defeated the papal army with the help of Giuseppe Garibaldi and became a symbol for a united Italy. In fact, every statue erected on and around the monument represents Italian cultural values, cities and regions.
